Turn Clinic: For Freestyle and Backstroke

Turn Clinic: For Freestyle and Backstroke This Dare To Turn Faster Clinic will introduce you to the 7 proven foundations of turning faster. This clinic breaks your turns down into the most basic parts - seven in all and uses skill development to strengthen each separate part before putting them all back together for a great turn. Coach Tony MacGuinness breaks all of these parts down, using science and the art of coaching to define what each movement should look like and why it looks like it does, before introducing his unique skill drills to show you and teach you what to do. ● The Approach You learn how to line your body up during your approach to the wall to minimize drag and maximize momentum into the wall. You will perform drills to learn to use the competing pressures of gravity and buoyancy to find your own natural float layer. These Drills also build breath control - purposeful exhalation - and comfort at various underwater depths. By taking speed into the right depth of water, you are set up for the next step. ● The Rotation One of the biggest mistakes in the rotation of the forward turn is taking your head downwards and far too deep. With his uniqie rotational drill progressions both on land and in the water Tony helps you to understand exactly how your body position on your approach to each wall, can make or break a good rotation. You will also learn how to help yourself make the natural corrections that lead to greater speed and less resistance. ● The Landing Tony teaches you the correct body position on the wall through what he calls the "Force Line" and uses the " Boomer Power Triangle", this set up allows you to leave the wall during a race with an exquisite line, great posture and the potential for even greater balance. Via a dry-land a instruction session and aided by unique drawings and physical work which will enable you to visualize and then feel the importance of a great " Force Line Power Triangle" on the landing of a turn. You will then transfer back into the pool where you will be taught proactive drills to convert the land based session into application in the water. ● The Drive From a strong landing, you will learn to use your glutes not your quads to power your drive while your abs control the motion - "drive with your butt, manage with your gut" will eventually become your mantra - for power that holds a good body line to create maximum propulsion. ● The Flight It is important to have balance as you are moving forward as your body fights buoyancy and gravity. If everything has been performed correctly to this point, you can ride the good body line you have created via holding torso tension and controlling your buoyancy. ● Subsurface Travel Tony turns his focus to the very important but often neglected topic of Subsurface Travel, and teaches you how to improve your Freestyle and Backstroke travel with minimum resistance. He will explain why he calls the underwater dolphin action a harmonic wave, and shares his drills to help you find your own maximum harmonic motion. ● Transition - More than just a "breakout" Tony shares drills for making the transition from underwater to surface for freestyle and backstroke as smooth and efficient as possible
